Call for papers
Submission process
- To submit, please email your abstract or paper (Microsoft Word or PDF format) alongside your full name, position and organisation (and those of any co-authors) to HILDA-Conference@unimelb.edu.au by Friday 15 May.
- We will accept an extended abstract (typically at least 2 pages) or a complete (or near-complete) paper. Abstracts must be sufficiently detailed to allow the conference organisers to assess the merits of the paper.
- Notification of acceptance will be sent via email to authors of successful papers by Friday 26 June.
Paper selection criteria
- Use of unit record data from the HILDA Survey must be central to all submissions.
- Priority will be given to papers that exploit the longitudinal nature of the data, particularly those that provide insights into how life in Australia has changed over the past two decades and what the consequences of those changes have been.
- Authors of accepted papers will be expected to provide a complete, or close to complete, paper by Friday 28 August, which will be forwarded to an invited discussant.
Session format for the conference
- Each session will comprise two papers, which will be paired together.
- For each paper, the format will include a 25-minute presentation by the author, a 7-minute commentary by an invited discussant, and a 13-minute Q&A with the audience.
Financial support
- Financial support of up to $1000 will be available to assist with airfares and accommodation for presenters (limited to one presenter per paper) who are required to travel to attend the conference.
- Support will be provided via reimbursement upon receipt of eligible expenses and processed after the conference.
- Conference registration fees will be waived for presenters (limited to one presenter per paper).
- Presenters will also receive a complimentary invitation to the conference dinner on the evening of Wednesday 1 October.
