Indigenous Economic Power Project

The challenge

Indigenous businesses contribute substantially to the Australian economy and First Nations communities. However, the sector is invisible in administrative business data (BLADE), which means the sector is not understood and unappreciated.

The research

The Indigenous Economic Power Project (IEPP), joint project with Dilin Duwa Centre for Indigenous Business Leadership, aims to build a nationally representative longitudinal dataset of the Indigenous business sector to conduct research to better understand the sector, design policy to support its development and measure its contribution to the Australian economy.

The impact

IEPP provides valuable information for governments and corporations wanting to develop effective policies to support the sector, especially procurement, and also the potential benefits to the community from the support.
