This snapshot captures trends and insights into potential topics of discussion for the summit. This report provides a comprehensive overview of the trends and insights in Shepparton for many of the issues that individuals face for economic and social success. This snapshot has been written to serve as a foundation for discussions and strategic insights to be covered by the Philanthropic Summit with a goal of enhancing the economic and social welfare of Shepparton’ s residents, families, and youth.
The increasing academic performance of children and youth in Shepparton is a cause for celebration, with discernible positive trajectories observed. The growing population indicates a thriving community. Employment opportunities are also on the rise, with notable increases in jobs that should support the economic wellbeing of families employed in these jobs. Key sectors with high job vacancies include technology, business, arts/media, healthcare, and labour-related professions.
There are topics, however, that demand attention to further strengthen financial, health, and social well-being in Shepparton. Perceptions of financial stress remain prevalent, highlighting the need to support individuals with low incomes to escape poverty or prevent its onset. Disparities in poverty rates across different Shepparton communities (from 12 to 28 percent) underscore the importance of targeted interventions. Additionally, there has been a decline in subsidized community housing stock, warranting a closer examination of processes and practices related to accessing or transitioning out of social housing. Finally, there is a concerning proportion of youth and young adults (aged 15-24) who appear disengaged from education, training, or employment. Addressing these challenges will be critical for fostering inclusive growth and opportunity in Shepparton. Equally important will be to develop a better understanding of why overall employment rates has fallen while vacancy rates have increased.
