Senator the Hon Sarah Henderson

Shadow Minister for Education, Senator for Victoria

Sarah is a Liberal senator for Victoria in the Australian Parliament and Shadow Minister for Education.

Sarah is passionate about the role of education in driving global competitiveness, building a shared sense of national identity and cultivating democratic values. On behalf of the federal Coalition, she is driving the reforms needed to improve school standards so that every young Australian can reach their full potential, so critical to securing Australia’s future.

Sarah was first elected to the House of Representatives as the member for Corangamite in 2013 before being appointed to the Senate in 2019.  Since first running for Parliament in 2010, Sarah has been a fierce advocate for the needs of regional communities.

Sarah has served in numerous roles including Chair of the House of Representatives Economics Committee, Assistant Minister for Social Services, Housing and Disability Services and Chair of the Senate Legal and Constitutional Affairs Legislation Committee.

Prior to taking on the education portfolio, Sarah was Shadow Minister for Communications.

Sarah was born and raised in Geelong, Victoria. After a successful career in broadcast journalism, Sarah worked as a commercial lawyer with Allens in Melbourne and News Corporation in New York. She then established her own media consultancy before taking on executive roles with Network Ten and National Indigenous TV.

Sarah holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from Monash University and lives in Barwon Heads near Geelong with her 17-year-old son.
