Title: Effects of student composition on their teacher’s mental health
Abstract: We study the effects of student characteristics on teacher's sick leave and mental health in Sweden. We find that exposure to observably “better off” students lowers the likelihood that a teacher takes a sick leave longer than two weeks. The effects are more pronounced for sick leaves related to mental health and burnout. Effects are somewhat larger in lower-secondary schools and much larger for younger teachers.
