The Future of Work

What is the future of work for Australians? Are jobs becoming more flexible but also less secure?

This forum will look at the impact of technological progress and innovation on the total amount of work available, the pace of structural change and the changing nature of work, and the implications of the rise in the gig economy, especially for the quality of work.

Speakers:

Professor Jeff Borland, University of Melbourne: “Automation and the Australian labour market: What are the issues for policy-makers?"

Professor Mark Wooden, Melbourne Institute: “Trends and patterns in nonstandard employment”

Professor Paula McDonald, QUT Business School: “Labour in the digital economy: A looming crisis of (in)decent work?”
