Dean Lillard is Professor of Human Sciences at The Ohio State University. Before commencing at OSU in 2012, Dean Lillard was on the faculty of the Department of Policy Analysis and Management at Cornell University. He holds a PhD in economics from the University of Chicago.

He serves as the Executive Director of the OSU Branch of the Federal Statistical Research Data Center (parent branch University of Kentucky), and is an Advisory Board Member of the Federal Research Data Center at the University of Kentucky, the Center for Health Economics & Policy Studies at San Diego State University.

He served on the advisory board of the Danish National Institute for Social Research in Copenhagen, Denmark from 2008-2016, “The dynamics of youth employment precarity” project at the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, Poland (2019-2023), and the Cross-National Studies Interdisciplinary Research and Training Program – a collaborative program run by the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN), and together with the Mershon Centre at OSU (2014-2023).

He is a member of the American Economic Association, Population Association of America, American Society of Health Economists, European Society for Population Economics, and the Econometric Society, and is a Research Fellow of the German Institute for Economic Research and a Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research.

His research spans labor and health economics, often using a cross-national research design inspired by his long stewardship of the Cross-National Equivalent File project. He also runs the COVID-CNEF project; the CNEF-COVID Vaccine Hesitancy project; and a project constructing, testing, and validating life-history data on disease built from retrospective survey questions.
