Abstract
Over the past decade in Australia, small firms have been the focus of increasing research effort. Underlying this enhanced effort has been an increase in the contribution of small businesses to aggregate economic activity. 1 The Australian Bureau of Statistics estimates that small businesses presently account for about 97 per cent. of all private sector businesses, and about 51 per cent. of private sector employment in Australia. 2
