Abstract

Most Australians want to open our external borders for vaccinated travellers and more than half of Australians think that unrestricted travel should be permitted if vaccination coverage in the full population is high enough, but Australians' willingness to receive the vaccine falls far short of the target they envision. In this Research Insight, Melbourne Institute researchers Dajung Jun and Esperanza Vera-Toscano explore Australians' attitudes towards receiving the vaccine and whether we are on track to open our borders for travel. The Research Insight uses data from the Taking the Pulse of the Nation survey, and the data was gathered while Victoria was in the middle of their fourth lockdown.
