Abstract

While people of all ages have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, young Australian adults (aged 18-24) have been particularly vulnerable to the ongoing crisis. Compared to the general population, young Australian adults are more likely to contract the virus and are also more likely to work in industries most affected by the pandemic restrictions. Using data from the Melbourne Institute's Taking the Pulse of the Nation survey, this Research Insight analyses the impacts of the pandemic on young Australians' employment and mental wellbeing compared to other demographics, as well as the differences in how men and women have been affected.
