Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic has had a major impact on people's livelihoods, as some have experienced job loss or had to work reduced hours. According to the April 2020 Labour Force Australia update from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), there were almost 600,000 fewer people in work in April than in March 2020. This Research Insight examines employment and income in Australia before and after the crisis, and looks at the effectiveness of the JobSeeker and JobKeeper payments.
